桂蘭原是莫家拳傳人

莫桂蘭─平凡的廣州女子，於廣州名酒樓馥如居任擔水雜工，和把她撫養成人的叔父莫平，以及莫平的義子游三水過著簡單安穩的日子。桂蘭甘於平凡，但三水卻渴望一朝富貴，欲投到廣州第一武功的黃飛鴻門下。桂蘭偶爾目睹飛鴻跟迷蹤拳傳人霍冠威的較量，被二人高超的武藝及武德深深震撼，對武術的興趣因而展開。

桂蘭對學武的興趣日濃，加上飛鴻被三水打動，願意收三水為徒，但莫平卻反對二人學武，怕二人會變得好勇鬥狠，但桂蘭不盡認同，據理力爭，莫平被逼講出桂蘭身世，原來莫平為莫家拳的唯一傳人，其父因打鬥而死，故不想桂蘭再學武，但飛鴻早看出桂蘭是學武材料，眼見桂蘭為未能習武而失落，遂向莫平游說，莫平終答應向桂蘭傳授莫家拳，亦同時允許三水拜飛鴻為師。
