千年以來，酒見證中國人的生老病死，悲歡離合，三個兄弟的恩怨情仇，競爭角力，亦正圍繞酒而開始……

梁家本為小康之家，過著樂也融融的生活，長子梁正堯(林保怡飾)在九江首富宋鼎天(張國強飾)經營的酒坊「聚隆坊」打工，並深得鼎天信任，無奈二十年前的一場天災，一遭人禍，竟徹底改寫了梁、宋兩家人的命運。


為家犧牲 慘遭誤解
一場火災，令正堯家園盡毀，舉家流離失所；與此同時，宋家也遭逢船難，鼎天正室、二妾及兩名女兒不幸遇害，獨子宋子駿(敖嘉年飾)失蹤，只遺下幼女宋子澄(鍾嘉欣飾)，和三妾丁家碧(江美儀飾)，鼎天大受打擊，一病不起，臨終前提出以付出大筆巨款，將正堯過繼為宋家兒子，為他守護家業和撫養幼女子澄成人，正堯為了幫助家中度過難關，也因為同情鼎天的遭遇，遂毅然答應鼎天，成為鼎天的過繼子。

正堯成為聚隆坊的當家後，一直覬覦宋家家財的堂伯宋濤(郭峰飾)對他諸多留難，更誣衊其母關惠蘭(薛家燕飾)拿取宋家的金子，正堯為保惠蘭的清白，忍痛當眾和梁家劃清界線，令祖父梁秋(余子明飾)和二弟梁正匡(陳錦鴻飾)認定他是個貪圖富貴、冷血無情的忤逆子，憤然與他決裂，以後不相往還，正堯忍辱負重。
